Work has been a lot of fun. The Korean women teachers have taken me in and are so sweet about sharing lunch and stories. The Foreign teachers have taken care of showing me what to do after work, including going to a restaurant for all you can eat sashimi (like sushi with the fish on top of rice, except no rice, just fish) Delicious!! Korean meals always come with tons of sides. Todays sides were white kimchee (pickled, but not spicy) broccoli, a seaweed with a sweet sauce, and soup to start, and then tempura sweet potato and shrimp, a rice, kimchee and green roe combo served in a hot bowl, a hot egg dish that is supposed to calm the stomach and more. It is crazy!! The thing is that when you are not eating any bread or rice, you do not fill up as quickly and so it is possible to eat way more food than one normally eats. I had sooooo much sashimi!! mmmmm....
This morning (well after noon, but my day is skewed because I work until 11 or 11:30pm.) I went to Emart and bought a cute lunch box set, chicken, samjon (my new favorite sauce) and a few neccessities for the house. It is a good time to be using my USD because the Won is so low... I put up pictures from Europe today and the house feels much cosier for it. Did I mention that I love the food here? lots of options for spicy food, spicy noodles, mmmm.... Anyway, yesterday morning there was a couch outside my building that was very very nice looking. When it was still there when I got home from work, I decided it was supposed to me mine. I now have plenty of furniture. I really like the set up. I know, I know, I need to put up pictures, but all in good time. I am proud of myself for writing so diligently about my experience so far, so cut me a break!
This weekend they are celebrating St. Patricks day. Makes sense, right? I guess the International Pub will be closed on the actual day because it is mid-week so they have to plan ahead. I will let you know how it goes!
I have been reading at night before bed, which has been very nice. I am switching beetween BFG and a biography of Eleanor Roosevelt. They really compliment each other. It is 2 am my time, but I am wide awake. This is a good thing, because I want to be as awake as possible for my classes, so they have to be the middle of my day, meaning that bedtim will now be between 2 and 4am... very strange, but I do like sleeping in and this lifestyle lends quite easily to waking up, looking at the clock, and turning over to sleep for another hour or so.
I have refrained from talking to much about classes, because I am only observing. I would hate to make a statement about the classes and then eat my words later when I am actually in the hot seat, so I will let you know how my expereince is when I start teaching. I am going to be great at trivia nights when I get back though, for sure. The kids learn about the most random things in classes. Topics, so far, have ranged from studies about habits to Hackers and Crackers (I did not know that a hacker is good, and crackers are the bad ones). The kids are great though, and they are very excited to have the first girl foreign teacher. Koreans are very sweet and blunt about things that Americans generally are not. They always ask how old I am and if I have a boyfriend. Always. Doesn't bother me, its just not the first questions I am used to being asked. They are a lot of fun though. Alright, I am going to finish watching lost and then head up to BFG and Eleanor. See you on the flip side!
